So we all know we need to drink water to stay on top of our game, but with all the varying advice out there we’re asking the question – how much water should you be drinking?

Water is life. We need it to transport vital nutrients around the body and keep our muscles and minds functioning at full capacity.

Most people do not drink enough water day-to-day which means both their performance and their recovery is greatly impaired.

According to The European Food Safety Authority, men should be drinking about 2 liters of water per day while women should get about 1.6 liters. This is of course a general guideline but if you are not hitting these figures then you may be affected by dehydration.

To help you reach a more precise figure here’s a formula you can follow: simply multiply your bodyweight in kilograms by 0.033.

For example, if you weigh 70kg then 70kg x 0.033 = 2.31. Round this figure up to 2.4 liters to make sure you are drinking enough.

Tip: Convert your bodyweight from pounds to kilograms by dividing your weight in kg by 2.2. For example, 154lbs / 2.2 = 70kg.

If you are taking a supplement such as creatine which affects the way your body processes water then you will need to drink more. Check out the label on the supplement and always ensure you take on board enough fluid.

Now go forth, hydrate, and crush it!
